Day 1

Welcome to siem reap
If you are finishing a Grasshopper tour, you will be dropped at the hotel by your guide. If you are flying into Siem Reap today, a driver will be waiting for you when you land and will take you on the 30 minute drive to your hotel. Once you have settled into the hotel, it’s then time to get out amongst it and jump straight into Cambodia on an experiential roller coaster. This evening, you’ll be sitting on the back of a Vespa motor scooter with a skilled and experienced chauffeur taking you on an introductory tour to Siem Reap to show you the real life town, not the polished tourist version.
This is a mixture of higher end venues and true local style where we start out with cocktails at a classy bar before heading along the river to visit a fresh market with lots of interesting local ingredients, including some fried insects (optional). We work our way through town, stopping to try a signature dish here and there before arriving at a local fair where Cambodian people are letting their hair down a bit after a long work day. Among the smells of BBQ and the merriment of the locals, we’ll find some unique snacks and a few good drinks, then try our hand at some of the fun fair games. Back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep and ready for more fun tomorrow.

Siem Reap – Angkor Sunrise & hidden temples
One of the most famous monuments in Asia, the energy surrounding Angkor Wat at dawn is really something. It makes an early rise worthwhile and what’s more, after you have witnessed the sun rising behind the towers, you can walk through and enjoy an almost empty temple while the majority of tourists go back to their hotels for breakfast. See we have a special trick where we serve a mini buffet breakfast nearby in the forest. Once you have eaten your fill, we hit the bikes and ride a network of hidden trails through the forest and pop out at intervals to temples that are less known, but no less impressive than the heavily visited highlight temples. The magic of riding through the dark green vegetation, then suddenly arriving into a clearing with a 800 year old set of ruins in front of you is incomparable to any other experience. We’ll also be planting some trees today in our ongoing reforestation initiative.
You can expect to be back at your hotel by 3pm to enjoy some down time before the evening Phare Circus performance at 8pm. This is one of the most highly acclaimed shows in Cambodia where performance artists tell one of a collection of stories that draw on Cambodian culture and history. These artists are all students from the Phare Ponleu Selpak training school and will take your Cambodian experience to new heights with their incredible talents.
