Kayak Mendenhall Glacier – Seaplane & Overnight in Juneau
Special Offer: Reserve by May 31 and Save $100 off this extension.
No visit to Alaska is complete without experiencing the grandeur of a glacier from the seat of a kayak.
Join your guide and fellow travelers on this two day / one night extension, departing Skagway on an afternoon seaplane flight from Skagway to Juneau. The plane offers a unique perspective, flying above the Inside Passage and landing near downtown. Dinner and overnight accommodations conclude our first day.
In the morning, join your Grasshopper naturalist and our kayaking team on a private paddle to the face of Mendenhall Glacier, a 13 mile-long river of ice just 12 miles outside of town. This magnificent wilderness setting features snowcapped mountains, rushing waterfalls, pristine forests, and the tranquil waters of Mendenhall Lake.
Paddle the glassy waters of the lake, gliding past glowing icebergs, drifting up close to the glacier while spotting an amazing range of wildlife, including nesting gulls and arctic terns, mountain goats, river otters, beavers, bald eagles, and possibly black bears. Few glacier tours in Alaska are as accessible and beautiful as this one!

Ferry to Juneau – Dinner & Overnight
We depart this afternoon from Skagway by seaplane to Juneau, a thrilling journey offering spectacular views from the sky of the mountains, sea and glaciers along the Inside Passage route.
On landing in Juneau the Grasshopper team will accompany us to our hotel before we head out to enjoy dinner at another of our fave local haunts. It always feels great to be back in Juneau after experiencing the more remote towns further north. And it’s Alaska, the days are gloriously long with twilight.
Kayak Mendenhall Glacier
This morning our week-long adventure concludes by kayaking to Mendenhall Glacier. At breakfast you’ll be joined by our Grasshopper naturalist and meet our experienced, local kayak guides. We’ll transfer to the staging area and take part in a full safety briefing before boarding our kayaks.

In Juneau we will be staying in the Silverbow Inn
Originally built as a bakery, the historic Messerschmidt building now houses the Silverbow Inn. This Boutique property situated in the heart of downtown Juneau, opens to a city with a fun, northwest vibe. We would recommend considering Juneau and the Silverbow Inn for an extra day or two of Exploring the Alaskan state capital on your own.
