Day to Day itinerary

Day 1

Meals: –

Welcome to Luang Prabang

Upon arrival into Luang Prabang International Airport, a driver will be waiting for you. The drive to the hotel is no more than 20 minutes. Given that you will most likely be arriving in the evening, there are no activities planned. The hotel staff can make recommendations and assist with transport to any number of good restaurants.

Day 2

Meals: BD
Riding: 15km

EXPLORE LUANG PRABANG BY BIKE

Your friendly, English speaking, Laos Guide will be waiting for you when you finish your breakfast. After getting fitted to the bikes, you will ride through the quiet city streets of this heritage listed town. You will ride all the way down the Nam Khan side of the peninsula to the tip and along the way your guide will point out important buildings, places to get an interesting snack and so on.

You will get to know how the city came to be, why it is located here and the importance of the two rivers in Lao culture. Visit one of the most important temples, Wat Xiengtong, then continue a ride up through the fresh market where you can stop for a traditional style coffee made with Lao beans. Riding further out of town along the Mekong River, you will get to see a traditional form of paper making called Sa Paper and stop for a look at the rice wine distillery. We then clamber aboard a river boat that will take us downstream, past the center of town and to a Silk workshop. Here you can see the whole process from silk worms through to the lovely fabric that is produced. A cool drink is on offer here and then you will ride the short distance back to the hotel.

In the afternoon, enjoy some downtime, enjoy the pool and so on. Then in the early evening, meet your guide again for a walk through town and the night market where some excellent nibbles can be had among the warm atmosphere where travelers and locals can be found eating together. We conclude the walk with a cocktail at one of the town’s most stylish bars and then feast on subtle flavors at the highly reviewed, Tamarind Restaurant.

Day 3

Meal: BL
Riding: 35km

RIDE TO KUANG SII WATERFALL

If you feel so inclined, you can make an early rise with the sun to make an alms offering to the monks and novices. This is a daily ritual for the residents of Luang Prabang where they donate freshly cooked meals to the monks and receive a blessing in return. This is quite a sight given the number of monks and novices in the town, thus forming long processions of bright orange-clad walkers.

After breakfast, it’s time for another bike ride. Today you will be going a bit more off the beaten track on the far side of the Mekong. This is a quiet area where we pass through a number of villages, including one where pottery is the mainstay. Then we ride down to the river bank and take a boat over to the other side and ride up a sharp, but relatively short hill to the waterfall.

The Kuang Sii Waterfall really is a site to see and it’s also a great place for a swim in cold, fresh water with a bright aqua color as it flows over the limestone silt. Nearby there is a Free the Bears enclosure where rescued bears are housed and depending on timing, you may see the volunteers hiding their food in preparation for their lunch. Your lunch will be served by the waterfall and a van will be waiting to whisk you back to town when you are done.

We have arranged a private Baci ceremony for you. Lao people believe that our organs have 32 spirits. This ceremony represents tying the 32 spirits to the body and bringing good luck and prosperity.

The rest of the day and the evening are free for you to do as you wish.
