Comfortable Resorts with swimming pools
This tour is the perfect way to connect Bangkok and the beach by riding the backroads and trails full of family fun. This active tour travels from the lively city of Bangkok to the seaside resort of Hua Hin by train and onto Patio where you can take a ferry for the gulf islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao.
We stop at small towns you may never have heard of, where lovely beaches and comfortable, family-friendly hotels await. Gentle breezes, great food and a variety of activities make for an educational, healthy holiday suitable for kids of all ages.
This active family tour, concludes in the perfect starting point for a tropical island beach break on Koh Phangan, Koh Samui or head across to the Andaman coast for Phuket or Krabi. A cycling holiday for the whole family where precious experiences and unforgettable memories will be made.
Please Note - This tour is intended for families only. It is possible for us to schedule a private session of the same tour for adults, on request, at a nominal surcharge.
117 Km riding. This is a flat ride (only a few small hills) on back roads so it is achievable by anyone who can ride a bike for the distances involved (and if not just jump in the air-conditioned support vehicle for a rest). We have cut the distances down to kids' size so that the whole family can realistically ride a decent amount of each day.
Pedal-assist E-bike is an available option for this tour for $140 surcharge.
Cycle the backroads of Bangkok, take in a puppet show, then enjoy a boat ride up the River of Kings.
Relax on the sparkling beach of the charming town of Pranburi and explore your surroundings.
Explore Sam Roi Yot National Park, walking through the mangrove forests to a cave and then paying a visit to an elephant conservation center.
Pedal to visit some langur monkeys and check out an aquarium before arriving in Pathio on the expansive coast.
We’ll meet this morning for introductions and a bike fitting before we head out to explore Bangkok together. We’ll begin pedaling along the banks of the Chao Phraya River, through backroads and hidden alleys to the Chinese Thai temple called Wat Kalayanamit with the city’s largest image of the sitting Buddha. From there we’ll cycle to an old market and artist’s village, then stop for a tasty Thai lunch by the canal.
Kids will enjoy the show put on by Hoon Lek puppeteers that combines puppets with traditional Kohn dance. Next, we’ll stow our bikes in the back of a long tail boat and float our way up the River of Kings past the Grand Palace. Enjoy dinner with your guide tonight after a great first day of immersion in Thai culture.
The day starts with a transfer to Bangkok’s historic train station. After picking you up from your hotel, the start of your journey begins at the Hua Lamphong Railway station for a 3 ½ hour journey to Hua Hin. Today's ride is an easy one following back roads through small towns and along quiet coastline. In Pranburi, you'll stay in a comfortable resort right on the coast, well away from the bustle of Bangkok where we started the day.
The coast of Thailand is renowned for beautiful beaches and gentle seas. Sun, sand, a pristine shoreline, the clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand and a charming local village and market make Pranburi a perfect place to relax and explore by foot. With dark coarse sand, a scattering of small islands and rock formations right off the coast, the view from the beach is quite beautiful and the swimming sublime. A perfect day to relax along the coast.
We start the morning with a ride to the coast for a hike and boat ride for a visit to the enchanting Phaya Nakorn Cave in Sam Roi Yot National Park. Following lunch, cycle past the stark limestone mountains of Sam Roi Yot National Park. If you are really lucky you might spot monkeys hanging out on the rocks. Prachuap Khiri Khan sits on a beautiful curved beach and is a small provincial town which few tourists visit. Another perfect place for us to stay!
Today leave the bicycles behind to explore the mangrove forests of Sam Roi Yot National Park. This is a great place to see birdlife and to enjoy the quiet and wonder of the mangroves. There is a walk up to a cave on the headland and we then return to the pier where we take a drive inland to the Khi Buri National Park to visit an Elephant Conservation site supported by WWF. Kids will enjoy learning about this great success story of wildlife conservation while seeing the elephants wandering around their sanctuary. This evening we return to Prachuap Khiri Khan to stay in the same hotel as the night before.
Leaving Prachuap is a treat as we cycle through an Air Force base and over their runway. From here, we visit a nearby aquarium dedicated to the many fish species of the gulf. It really is an impressive place, and the location means that few foreigners get to visit.
Once we start riding, we will pass through the narrowest part of Thailand, which is only 11 km wide. You can see a ridge on your right that marks the border with Myanmar. You'll overnight in Pathio, a small beachside community with expansive views of the Gulf of Thailand.
Today marks the end of our time together. After breakfast and perhaps a swim, it is time to load up and move on. Depending on where you choose to go next, our team will take you to the ferry terminal for the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao, to the Chumphon Airport or to the Pathio train station.
For our Family Tours in Thailand, we provide perfectly maintained Cannondale Quick 1 Disc bikes in all sizes. Hybrid tires for touring, powerful Hydraulic brakes, lockout suspension for the smooth surface and handlebar bags to carry personal items. We have kids bikes to suit all ages, tag-along for the younger ones and child seats for the little ones.
The Cannondale Trail Neo is a durable, high quality and supremely comfortable e-bike. It features a power pack and drive unit from Bosch and is equipped with 10 speed Shimano gearing with plenty of range for all conditions. The hydraulic disc brakes prevent any braking fatigue in your hands and front suspension prevents any wrist pain that can occur with e-bikes due to their slightly different weight distribution. It's a great looking bike too, with a battery that is integrated into the frame and a nice, subtle color scheme. The bikes come in S, M & L, so will suit riders from 165cm to 186cm in height.
The hotels we use are a great, and sometimes unexpected, part of this tour. In the larger cities and established tourist centers we use stylish and supremely comfortable hotels and resorts, while in the smaller and more out of the way areas we stay in the best available accommodation, which is often simple yet always well run, clean and comes with air-conditioning and a private bathroom. All the hotels on this tour have swimming pools.
An experienced English speaking, local leader will host you on this trip who is well spoken, very knowledgeable, and charming. For tours of 7+ people, an assistant guide will accompany the group to allow for flexibility and ensure attention to service & detail.

We use local guides who have a passion for their country and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our leaders will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of their country and will help you to connect with the villagers you meet along the way. They will also keep your safety and comfort top priorities at all times.
Kids are well catered for on Grasshopper tours with a range of bike options to choose from. We have quality children's frames ranging down to XX-Small for those comfortable on a bike. For the less experienced, tag-alongs are available that hook to the rear of an adult bike and allow kids to pedal along if they want, and for the youngest kids we have children's seats, so no one misses out on the fun.
An air-conditioned backup support vehicle is always available in case you want a break from riding, and to carry your luggage.
Thai food is internationally famous, and for good reason. This trip is as much about food as riding with all the best of Thai food provided throughout the trip, and all tastes can be catered for, even fussy junior tastes. Included meals are listed in the day by day itinerary, and drinking water is always included with meals. All dietary requirements are accommodated. Any soft or alcoholic drinks are not included and will be at your own expense.
Energy bars and local snacks are provided to keep your energy levels up for the riding, and clean water and electrolyte drinks are always available to keep you well hydrated.
Take it Home
A beautiful souvenir Grasshopper cycling jersey is yours to wear and take home. We even have mini ones for the younger kids. We also provide a Grasshopper drink bottle as an extra memento.

My family has just returned from a 7 day family bike trip down the coast of Thailand. The trip was fantastic and my two teenage boys considered it the highlight of our trip to SE Asia. If you want to see a beautiful part of Thailand and have a great adventure along the way I highly recommend this trip.
