Overview

The Mekong Delta, where the great river nears the end of its 4900-kilometre journey, branches off into hundreds of rivulets, making this flat area in the south of Vietnam some of the most fertile in Southeast Asia.

Cycling the Delta is an experience you will never forget. Your guide will take you weaving through the canal trails and orchard paths, across rivers in ferries that sometimes only fit half a dozen people, and into the charming villages and towns that this area is known for. As much an eating tour as a biking tour, the cuisine of this area will delight as will the friendly, welcoming people.

This is an ‘On Demand’ tour - We understand active travelers value flexibility and we do our best to accommodate every request. Simply propose your travel dates, bring one or more companions and you will receive our standard price - no private tour markups.

115 Km riding. The riding is entirely flat. You’ll cycle on a great variety of surfaces, ranging from concrete to hard-packed dirt and even a few forest trails around Angkor. Traffic will almost always be a rarity, allowing you to engage with the locals as you go, stopping for a chat or a photo opp as you wish.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel and it's then just a short drive down to the boat pier at the Saigon River. Here we board a nicely decked out speed boat for the journey up the river to Cu Chi District. Along the way, the scenery changes from a rapidly modernizing city to a more village-like one. Before long, we are leaving the boat to take our exploratory ride around the Cu Chi area. Here we see rice paper making and ride through the rubber plantations before returning to the legendary tunnels where we take some time to explore now that the main crowds have passed. After lunch, we take a drive of a couple of hours into the Mekong Delta and onto Ben Tre, our home for the night.

We start our day by exploring the breakfast options at both the hotel and the local market. It's then time for some cycling. We take an easy, flat ride through the shady canal paths and back roads, stopping along the way to try the fresh fruit and to have a tasty lunch. In the mid-afternoon, we arrive at the home of our hosts. We then have some time to relax and unwind before taking a walk of the village and perhaps helping a little with dinner. A boat ride just before sunset is a nice way to see out the day.

As we wake on your final day, you will be wishing your time in the Delta won’t end, but there is still time to see the floating markets for which this area has become quite well known. As most people will be headed to the chaotic main market near Can Tho, our hosts will take us to a real, local floating market where vegetables are tossed from craft to craft and a little coffee vendor boat bounces in and out of the gaps, serving strong iced coffee. After taking some time to experience this explosion of color and activity, we return to the house for breakfast, then take to the bikes again to explore some more of those lovely canal paths where the only traffic is an occasional motor scooter or pedestrian. At lunch, we pack up and then it's back into the van for the drive back to Saigon and to your hotel.
