Day to Day

Our group of adventurers will meet at Hakata Station in Fukuoka to kick off the journey. After a safety briefing, we'll hop on our bikes to explore Hakata, a charming port town. This coastal town is a fusion of ancient traditions and modern delights. Home to Japan's oldest Zen temple, the largest festival, and famous ramen.

We'll stop for a traditional lunch before boarding an express train to Kai Beppu, a region famous for its hot springs. We'll check in to our hotel and unwind against the backdrop of breathtaking ocean views, soak in one of the onsens, and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

After breakfast, we'll gear up for an unforgettable 25-kilometer cycling adventure through Beppu, Japan's renowned hot spring town. You'll be surrounded by the rising steam from the surrounding hot springs, with the stunning coastal views creating a picturesque backdrop to your journey.

Delight in an authentic local lunch and unwind in the unique mud onsen, one of Beppu’s most rare and exciting hot springs. As the day winds down, we’ll join together to savor a traditional Japanese dinner, and afterward, let the melodious tunes of the Toji Jug Band serenade us.

Today, we trade our pedals for hiking boots. After breakfast, we'll hop on a bus to transfer to the Yufudake Trailhead, where we'll start our 8-kilometer hike up Mt. Yufu.

Soaring to an elevation of 1,583.3 meters (5,195 feet), Mount Yufu, referred to locally as "Oita's Mt Fuji", is a majestic volcano situated on the border of the towns of Yufu and Beppu. The ascent to the summit, a round-trip journey of approximately three hours, unveils the breathtaking beauty of the Yufuin Basin, adorned with hot springs that dot the landscape. Along the way, we'll stop to savor a delightful picnic lunch.

Following the hike you can unwind in the serene ambiance of Yufuin, where ambient nature combines perfectly with invigorating hot springs, the town's most famous feature. We'll check into our Japanese-style rooms which feature today's conquest, Mt. Yufu, as the backdrop.

Yesterday's hike was stronger than today's one! We'll keep our boots on, and after breakfast, we'll hop on a bus to transfer to Kuju Visitor Center, where our walk to Kuju Mountain will start.

The Kuju Mountain Range stands as a breathtaking spectacle on the picturesque island of Kyushu in southern Japan. Renowned as one of the 100 famous Japanese mountains, it boasts a remarkable natural beauty that captivates all who venture into its scenic embrace.

Today we're hiking 10km up the mountain range, which should take about 5 hours. The focal point of our adventure is a delightful picnic lunch set against a scenic natural backdrop. If you're traveling in spring you can enjoy the enchanting Miyamakirishima flowers, which bloom from May to June, while in the fall the vibrant gold and amber hues of autumn foliage make for a picture-perfect setting.

The leisurely walk to your hotel marks the conclusion of the day, where we'll savor a delicious and well-deserved dinner.

We're back on the saddle today with a scenic 50-kilometer loop ride exploring the breathtaking beauty of Daikanbo.
Along the way, we'll take a leisurely stroll amidst the outer rim mountains, savoring the serene landscapes that unfold around us.
We'll stop for a delightful lunch before heading back to our hotel, where you have the afternoon free to leisure.

After breakfast, we'll check out and embark on a picturesque 2-2.5-hour transfer to Kumamoto, laying the groundwork for a scenic ferry ride to Shimabara.

The day unfolds with a cycling tour along the coastline, exploring the intriguing Mt. Unzen eruption preservation park, and taking on a challenging hill climb to reach the heights of Unzen National Park.

As the day gracefully concludes, surrender to relaxation in the Unzen Onsen, where you'll unwind amidst the soothing embrace of the natural hot springs, set against the backdrop of active volcanic activity, creating a truly serene and rejuvenating evening experience.

We'll start our morning with a hearty breakfast, check out, and hop on a 2-hour bus transfer to Nagasaki, setting the stage for a day brimming with adventure.

Nagasaki, a city steeped in history, is renowned for being one of the few Japanese ports open to foreign influence during Japan's period of isolation. The city is notably recognized for its tragic history as one of the two targets of atomic bombings during World War II.
We'll kick off your exploration with a scenic kayaking excursion on the Nakashima River before immersing ourselves in the treasures of Dejima Island.

Dejima Island, historically significant, served as a Dutch trading post during Japan's Sakoku (isolation) period. Today, it stands as an open-air museum, offering visitors a glimpse into Nagasaki's international past. The preserved structures and exhibits showcase the island's role as a bridge between Japan and the Western world.

After lunch, we'll meander the streets of China Town and pay a visit to the iconic Oura Church.
As the day unfolds, we'll indulge in a delightful dinner at a local town restaurant.

We'll have our last breakfast together before this multi-activity Japan adventure comes to an end. As you conclude your journey, you have the option to visit the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park, sites that bear witness to the profound historical significance of the region. The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum provides a somber but important exploration of the impact of atomic warfare, offering insights into the human cost and the city's resilience.

Peace Park, a symbol of hope and resilience, is a tranquil space dedicated to promoting peace and understanding. It features various monuments, sculptures, and the iconic Peace Statue, emphasizing the importance of a world free from nuclear weapons.
