While traveling in Cambodia, if you need to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, the best way to travel is not in a bus, car, or plane - it's by bike!
On this three day tour, we take our time to pedal through the charming countryside that lies west of the Tonle Sap Lake. We visit the rural gem of Battambang where we cycle and eat our way through a truly Cambodian experience. We cycle the back trails, along rivers and old railway lines to Kampong Chhnang, the home of Cambodian pottery for a new cultural experience. We visit the former capital of Oudong and then cycle the peaceful country lanes and trails all the way to the vibrant capital of Cambodia: Phnom Penh.
For those who enjoy cycling back roads through the countryside where you may be the only foreigners, this is the tour for you. You can't fit more visual excitement into three days than this tour offers. It sure beats the bus!
This is an ‘On-Request’ tour - We understand active travelers value flexibility and we do our best to accommodate every request. Simply propose your travel dates, bring one or more companions and you will receive our standard price - no private tour markups.

105 Km riding. This is a completely flat ride on back roads and trails. We spend minimal time if any on anything resembling a main road, so there is rarely any traffic at all. The road is generally a mix of sealed or hard-packed dirt. At times it can be uneven and bumpy, but perfectly achievable if you are confident with your balance on a bike.
Pedal-assist E-bike is an available option for this tour for $105 surcharge.
Deposit amount: $210 USD
Single Room Option: $75 USD

Phnom Penh to Angkor Cycle Tour
Cycle Cambodia's capital to iconic Angkor
Journey from Phnom Penh to the famous temples of Angkor the slow way, by bicycle. There’s much more to see from the seat of a bike than the window of a bus, as you cycle the rural communities of Oudong, Kampong Chanang and Battambang with a local guide.
We pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap and head straight out of town by air-conditioned car, driving for a few hours to reach Battambang. After enjoying a delicious local lunch, we have a little rest time before taking a late afternoon cycle out to see one of the provinces most stunning 11th-century temples at Phnom Banan. After an exploration of this site, we cycle to Phnom Sampou where a great view of rice paddies and small villages can be seen from the more recently-built hilltop temple. A transfer back will give you time to freshen up before dinner.
This morning, take an exciting cycle through the villages to learn about the cottage industries that support the economy of this area. For this tour, we meet up with a local university student who will show us around the villages just outside Battambang and provide an interesting point of view. The ride is on a lovely route along the river with lots of shade. We stop to see rice paper making, banana drying, rice wine and prahok production. We also stop to enjoy the famously delicious Cambodian snack kralanh, bamboo sticky rice. After this authentic glimpse at Cambodian life, we drive to Kampong Chhnang where we take a pleasant trip in a rowboat through the floating villages before settling down for the night in this small town.
As we wake on our third day, you will be wishing for the trip not to end, but there is still time to see the pottery villages of Kampong Chhnang before we drive down to the former capital of Cambodia, Oudong. Here we visit the mountaintop temple, then pedal along quiet country trails and backroads all the way to Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital. Our tour concludes upon arrival at your hotel.
Cannondale CX 3s are the latest addition to the Grasshopper fleet for multi-day tours based-in (or traveling through) Cambodia. They are well suited to the Grasshopper touring style and terrain typically encountered here. Fast and smooth rolling 700cc wheels, lockout front suspension and a riding position that offers a good balance of upright comfort and forward-riding efficiency make cycles on regular, rough or unpaved roads a pleasant experience for everyone. A true do-it-all bike for touring, with a class-leading lightweight build and powerful hydraulic disc brakes, the Cannondale CX 3's are a great addition to the Cambodian fleet. Additionally, all bikes are fitted with removable handlebar bags and comfortable saddles for touring.
The Cannondale Trail Neo is a durable, high quality and supremely comfortable e-bike. It features a power pack and drive unit from Bosch and is equipped with 10 speed Shimano gearing with plenty of range for all conditions. The hydraulic disc brakes prevent any braking fatigue in your hands and front suspension prevents any wrist pain that can occur with e-bikes due to their slightly different weight distribution. It's a great looking bike too, with a battery that is integrated into the frame and a nice, subtle color scheme. The bikes come in S, M & L, so will suit riders from 165cm to 186cm in height.
The hotels we use are a great, and sometimes unexpected, part of this tour. In the larger cities and established tourist centers we use stylish and supremely comfortable hotels and resorts, while in the smaller and more out of the way areas we stay in the best available accommodation, which is often simple yet always well run, clean and comes with air-conditioning and a private bathroom.
An experienced English speaking, local leader will host you on this trip who is well-spoken, very knowledgeable, and charming. For tours of 7+ people, an assistant guide will accompany the group to allow for flexibility and ensure attention to service & detail.
Our leaders are often cited as being the main highlight of the tour. We use local guides who have a passion for their country and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our leaders will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of their country and will help you to connect with the villagers you meet along the way as well as keeping your comfort and safety top priorities.
An air-conditioned backup support vehicle is always available in case you want a break from riding, and to carry your luggage.
While Cambodian cuisine may not be as famous as that of some of its neighbors, it offers some subtle, understated flavors. There is a strong emphasis on fish and fresh vegetables in the traditional diet, but contemporary Cambodian cuisine offers a wide range of options and surely has something for everyone. Our guides are experts at introducing you to the finest food. Included meals are listed in the day by day itinerary, and drinking water is always included with meals. Any soft or alcoholic drinks are not included and will be at your own expense.
Energy bars and local snacks are provided to keep your energy levels up for the riding, and clean water and electrolyte drinks are always available to keep you well hydrated.
A beautiful souvenir Grasshopper cycling jersey is yours to wear and take home. We also provide a Grasshopper drink bottle as an extra memento.

Travel by any means results in some impact to the countries, communities and environments we travel. On this tour, we aim to make a positive impact through our Book Donation Program and we seek to minimize our environmental impact through running our Cambodian support vehicles on 100% Biodiesel from Naga Biofuels. This is not a crop-based product, the fuel is made entirely from recycled cooking oil.
It is a boutique hotel and offers its guests the ultimate accommodation experience with its 16 luxurious bedrooms arranged in 4 traditionally inspired buildings in Battambang, Cambodia. When designing the hotel we wanted to combine all that was best in the local Khmer and French colonial architecture whilst providing our guests with maximum comfort and convenience.
We decided to do the West Tonle Sap Trail - Angkor to Phnom Penh Tour in order to see a bit more of Cambodia than just temples. The tour was really great and we got to see an immense amount of local businesses, traditions and village life. Our tour guide Sreymom was really great and told us a lot about the country along the way...we never were hungry because of lots of snack stops and cold towels on the way. The riding itself is very easy. We really recommend the tour, especially if you have to cover the distance anyways.
It was an amazing experience! We were impressed with the blend of activities in our tour from meeting the local villagers, seeing their trades while touring the cities and their outskirts. We would definitely recommend Grasshopper to all of our friends!
