A tour for those who want to go beyond the main temples of Angkor and explore not only the far-flung ruins, but also the peaceful villages of the Cambodian countryside where charming locals will host you and introduce you to their way of life.
The tour starts with our most popular activity, sunrise at Angkor Wat, followed by a great morning of exploring the trails through the protected forest around the temples. We visit a few iconic temples and a few lesser-known ruins before leaving the park for a pedal up to the villages to the north. Here we stay in a tasteful, modest villa, set on a farm where we can experience true village life with our hosts. You'll have ample time to meet the villagers, explore the farm and surrounding area and glimpse Cambodian countryside life from up close.
Our second day involves more great backroad riding through villages and farmland to reach the temple Banteay Srei and then Kbal Spean where a river flows over a sandstone bed that features Hindu carvings from the 11th and 12th centuries. This is also the site of a wildlife conservation center, so we will take a tour of that facility to see some rescued wildlife.
For those with limited time who want to see more than just the temples, this is the perfect, compact trip.
75 KM riding. This is a predominantly flat ride, but we do encounter a few smaller hills as we ride along the banks and levees. The surface is mostly unsealed as we ride on small paths and trails created by walkers, bicycles or motor-scooters and at times hard-packed dirt roads.
Peak Season: For tours commencing from December 23 through January 3 there is a peak season surcharge of 15% on the price of this tour due to hotel rate increases at this time of year.
Take in sunrise over the spires of UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat for a bucket list experience.
Spend the night in a small village in the countryside for an authentic immersion into rural Cambodian life.
Cycle hidden trails through Angkor Wat as well as back roads to Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean for a fun ride.
Visit the intricate ancient carvings of Kbal Spean before checking out a wildlife conservation center.
