Both nights on tour are spent in supremely comfortable hotels, which are amongst the best on offer in the Mekong Delta. With only 12 rooms, The Island Lodge offers unequaled luxury accommodations, blending privacy and tranquility in a charming Indochine-themed setting. An experienced English speaking, local leader will host you on this trip who is well spoken, very well informed, and charming. Our leaders are often cited as being the main highlight of the tour. We use local leaders who have a passion for their country and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our leaders will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of their country and will help you to connect with the villagers you meet along the way.
For groups of 6+ people a bike mechanic will join the group. Whilst not a master of linguistics, our technical team always make an effort to form a bond with the group and provide not just mechanical support, but additional encouragement to those who may find themselves at the back of the group. Our drivers support the group by ensuring that the freshest fruit and tastiest snacks are picked up along the way.
An air conditioned backup support vehicle is always available for tired riders and to carry your luggage. In the Mekong Delta, we are on narrow bike and pedestrian style paths and trails where the support vehicle cannot follow. It will however, meet us at intervals of 10km or so and can meet us at closer intervals if there is an urgent need.
The international profile of Vietnamese food has increased over the last two decades with very good reason. A cuisine that has evolved with the culture and landscape of Vietnam provides for an astounding level of variety from south to north. Each town and city has its own subtle twist on iconic dishes and some of their own creations. Our leaders are passionate about their food and look forward to taking you on a culinary adventure in unison with your cycling adventure. Included meals are listed in the day by day itinerary, and drinking water is always included with meals. Any soft or alcoholic drinks are not included and will be at your own expense.
Energy bars and local snacks are provided to keep your energy levels up for the riding, and clean water and electrolyte drinks are always available to keep you well hydrated.
Take It Home
A beautiful souvenir Grasshopper cycling jersey is yours to wear and take home. We also provide a Grasshopper drink bottle as an extra memento.

for Mekong Delta in Style
Cycle the Mekong Delta near Vinh Kim
Our Grasshopper team will arrange a central meeting point in town or come pick you up at your hotel. From Saigon, it’s an 90 minute transfer by private van to the northern edge of the Delta.
To start our ride the bikes are set up just down the road from a village market where locals will welcome you as neighbours. We set off on small rural roads and concrete canal paths this morning, visiting some of the artisans, weavers and growers who call this region home.
The sights along the trails include stunning vistas of rice fields, lush vegetable and fruit farms, temples, pagodas, and countless local markets. There’s a well-timed stop for cold drinks and fresh fruit and just before lunch a visit to the largest wholesale produce market in southern Vietnam.
Lunch today is served in a private home with a meal specially prepared for our group. From here it’s a short boat ride across the Mekong to The Island Lodge, your luxurious home for the evening. You can relax by the pool, enjoy the spa services of the hotel, or simply spend a quiet afternoon with a book by the banks of the river.
Dinner tonight is at The Island Lodge. Meals: LD
Cycle & Transfer to Can Tho
Breakfast at the Island Lodge is enjoyed in the outdoor dining area overlooking the river. Meanwhile the bikes are made ready for our second day of riding and exploring deeper into the Delta.
We will cross by boat or van to just outside of Ben Tre. Our ride today continues along narrow canal paths, crossing streams and larger rivers by ferries, and includes a stop at a traditional brick factory.
Lunch today near Cho Lach is once again specially prepared in a private residence. There’s time for a short ride after lunch before we hop in the van to transfer to Can Tho and our next night of luxury at the Victoria Can Tho Resort. Enjoy a dip in the pool or relax riverside.
Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant in Can Tho.
Cycle to Vinh Long & Transfer to Saigon
This morning we are up early in order to experience Can Tho’s floating markets with the locals, not the tourists. A short drive by private van from the Victoria Resort gets us to a boat dock where we’ll head into the main market area for an up-close experience of this unique Delta tradition.
Returning to the hotel by 7:30am, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the sumptuous breakfast at the the resort. By 9am the bikes will be ready for us in front of the hotel. We’ll set off to the nearby ferry crossing the Mekong and our last day of cycling and Delta adventures. This region features many sites constructed during Khmer rule of the Delta and today nearly 1.5 million people of Cambodian descent still call this area home.
After a late lunch, it’s time to board the van for our transfer back to Saigon, arriving at approximately 5pm.
What's the Riding Like?
All flat terrain
Small canal paths
3 days riding
Approx. 115km cycling
This is a completely flat ride on back roads and trails. We spend minimal time if any on anything resembling a main road, so there is rarely any traffic at all. The road is generally a mix of sealed or hard-packed dirt. At times it can be uneven and bumpy, but perfectly achievable if you are confident with your balance on a bike. The fitness requirement on this tour is not high due to the lack of hills, short distances and relaxed pace. In the Mekong Delta, we are on narrow bike and pedestrian style paths and trails where the support vehicle cannot follow. It will however, meet us at intervals of 10km or so and can meet us at closer intervals if there is an urgent need.
The south of Vietnam experiences the regular Southeast Asian monsoon between June and October, with dry sunny weather from November to April. December and January are the coolest months with temperatures rising during April and May leading to the onset of the rains.
