Experienced western leaders will host you on this trip who are well traveled in the region, very well informed and, of course, charming. The Leaders are often cited as being a highlight of the tour! In addition to your group leaders, we make use of local guides who have a passion for their countries and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our team will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of a country and will help you to connect with the people you meet along the way.
The Chase across Asia may be a 'Race' but it is not just about speed, you'll compete using your wits, ingenuity and inquisitiveness. All challenges are unique to the location you're in, helping you dig a little deeper under the surface of a country than you would have otherwise, while also making for some great laughs and stories to take home from your journey. There may be winners but in this competition there are no losers. Pack an open mind and sense of adventure!
The hotels we use are comfortable and offer a welcome refuge to rest your legs after a big day's adventure. In the larger cities and established tourist centres we use stylish and comfortable hotels. While in the smaller out of the way areas we stay in the best available accommodation, which is more simple, yet always well run, clean and comes with air-conditioning and private bathroom.
This is as much a food adventure as a cultural one. Thai food is so well loved it barely needs introduction, and whilst Cambodian cuisine may not be as famous as Vietnamese, it offers some subtle, understated flavors. There is a strong emphasis on fish and fresh vegetables in the traditional diet, but contemporary Cambodian cuisine offers a wide range of options and surely has something for everyone.
Vietnamese food is now known around the world, but what may not be so well known is that there is a great deal of variety within the national menu. In the southern area where we will be, a lot of seafood is available and also freshwater fish. In reality though, the Delta produces such a mind boggling amount of food that the range of choice may endanger any hopes you had of losing weight on this adventure. Our guides are experts at introducing you to the finest food across all the borders. Included meals are listed in the day by day itinerary, and drinking water is always included with meals. Any soft or alcoholic drinks are not included and will be at your own expense.
Local snacks, fruit and clean water are provided at points in the journey to boost your energy levels up and keep you well hydrated.
There will prizes, goodies and giveaways along the way to both remember the journey and reward competition leaders at certain points, and don't forget the $1000 grand prize to the overall winner of The Chase across Asia!
For much of the journey free and creative choice of transportation is a big part of the race. Although for certain sections we will share the same comfortable air-conditioned vehicles, such as from Saigon to the Mekong Delta as well as drive to Bangkok after crossing from Cambodia.
Travel by any means results in some impact to the countries, communities and environments. On this trip we seek to minimise our environmental impact through running our Cambodian support vehicles on locally sourced 100% Bio-Diesel from Naga Earth. This is not a crop based product, the fuel is made entirely from recycled cooking oil!

More than just a race - A race with a purpose...
CAEP’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee believes “choice” and “opportunity” are key areas of focus in developing our CPD offerings. Adventure CAEP - The Chase across Asia represents the evolution of CAEP CPD in providing choice CME with the opportunity for travel and adventure.
Getting there & back again...
It is easily feasible to fit the Race into a two-week holiday period. Teams should aim to arrive in Saigon no later than Monday morning (September 10th) to account for any slight delays, airport transfer and allow some time to settle in before the introductory dinner this evening. If possible we would recommend arriving the day before (Sunday) to give yourself additional time to acclimatize to your new surrounds and get in a recharging night's sleep.
Both these options can be achieved with a Saturday departure (Sept 8th). Depart morning for arrival Sunday night (flying west through Asia), or evening for arrival Monday morning (flying east through Europe). Flight scheduling and pricing can be further searched on Skyscanner.
At the end of the trip you may wish to extend your time in Thailand with a beach holiday, but if you need to return for the start of the following week a Friday evening or Saturday departure will comfortably have you back on the weekend with some time to spare.
(Please note - Flights are not included in the tour and are the responsibility of contestants to arrange)
Coolest time: Nov-Feb
Wettest time: Jun-Oct
Our favourite: Jul-Sep
In this region the coolest time of year is from November to February with temperatures rising to a peak in April and May. With the arrival of the rains in June temperatures drop, with rain falling mainly in the afternoons in short, heavy showers. September and October can be wetter months but we believe that's a great time to visit, see our 5 Great Reasons for Touring in the Green Season. Dry conditions return in November.
A combination of lower numbers of tourists, sharp light and refreshing showers make September a great time to visit this part of Southeast Asia.
Extend Your Stay
Why not add a couple of nights before and after your trip?
This is an exciting and vibrant city that could easily deserve an extra day or two of your time. There are various activities, including food tours and tours of the back alleys by motor-scooter. We also offer a one day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels.
For hotels, Agoda is a great place to start. The range in this city is substantial.
Think about joining us for one of our number 1 rated half or full day rides. Since 2010 we have been the number 1 rated bike tours in Bangkok on tripadvisor.com. It's a reputation that we are proud of and working hard to maintain. You can see and book any of our Bangkok tours on this website.
