Half day bike tour from Hoi An, Vietnam
Bike tour Hoi An's scenic countryside to the UNESCO World Heritage site of My Son on a half-day cycling adventure that takes you beyond the tourist sites and immerses you in the bucolic surrounds of this historic region. A fun & easy day tour by bike that's suitable for all.
This bike tour runs from Hoi An

The historic city of Hoi An gives way to beautiful rural landscapes on our half-day cycling adventure to the historic Cham ruins of My Son.
Our tour winds through from ancient Hoi An to the countryside, past small farms and villages following rural pathways and small roads hidden from most tourist routes.
With a refreshing snack and fresh fruit stop en-route, we cycle to the edge of the My Son site, boarding the electric busses mandated by UNESCO to protect the integrity of the temples. Your guide leads you on a private tour of the beautiful Cham ruins, before boarding our air-conditioned van for the drive back to your hotel.

This tour also includes a simple but delicious local noodle lunch to keep you well fueled from your day of exploring.

Please note: Due to the Annual TET holidays from February 4th to 7th 2019, the Cycle My Son tour has a 20% surcharge. Our other Hoi An tours will be closed during these dates.

Tour Itinerary

We'll gather this morning at our conveniently located shop, just up a small alley off Hai Ba Trung Street.

In town
Cycling along small and quiet alleyways we reach the riverfront of the historic district, long before crowds descend on the city. Our guide will help you get your bearings in the centre of town and point out the nearby historic sites.

Countryside
Crossing the river, we leave the city behind on our way to My Son, venturing off onto rural pathways accessible only to bikes and motorbikes. It's not long before we are pedalling through small villages, past family farms and rice fields, greeting workers along our way.

Depending on the season, we pass rice, corn and even sunflower fields as we explore a very different landscape to that of the city. We'll see hardly any four-wheeled vehicles as we sneak through a network of shortcuts and connections that only locals would know.

The Cham Ruins of My Son lie ahead.

Snack Break & My Son ruins
After replenishing our energy with a healthy snack of fresh fruit with local coffee or tea, it is a short transfer to the entrance to this UNESCO World Heritage site. New regulations require we park our bikes and board electric shuttle vans to the main ruins.

The temples and towers of My Son were built by the Cham people, initially Hindu and later of Muslim faiths. The Cham Kingdom, once dominant in the region, was eventually conquered by the Vietnamese and Khmer. Descendants of the original tribes are now scattered throughout the region, mostly along inland waterways.

Transfer back to Hoi An

A drive aboard our private van with a mid-way stop for a simple but delicious lunch of local noodles tops off a fun, informative half day tour.

The tour concludes with the van dropping you off at your hotel, approximately 2:00pm.

What's the Riding Like?

Some dirt trails

25km riding

This ride is mainly on back alleyways, flat tracks and small roads - there are no hills so anyone who can reasonably ride a bike can do this tour. There are a few small sections on dirt trails where beginner riders will have to show some care.

We did the ride to My Son with Ky, it was so fun! Ky was a great guide, super friendly & informative. It was great to do a bit of exercise, learn some history & see the countryside.
We didn’t see any other tourists apart from at the temples - really felt like we were off the beaten track.

EmilythinksJanuary 2018

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared the history of the Cham people with us, along with the mystery of the buildings. It was one of the highlights of our Danang-Hanoi trip. Highly recommend it to travelers that are looking to do some sightseeing as well as get a taste of the local culture.
