Ride "Sabai, Sabai”
Sabai, sabai is Thai for being chilled out. Meandering the small lanes throughout the old city to visit some of the main sights of old Chiang Mai.
Wat Chiang Man
Wat Chiang Man is Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, built in the auspicious Northeast corner of the old city where the ancient Marble and Crystal Buddha images are enshrined.
The City Navel
The cosmological heart of Chiang Mai is called the City Navel. Visit the Navel Temple with its serene 700 hundred year old white Buddha and the Three Kings Monument.
Wat Chedi Luang
The next stop is Chiang Mai’s grandest monument. Wat Chedi Luang was built to house the ashes of a king and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha (now resident at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok). It is now the home of the City Pillar and 3 auspicious dipterocarp trees which provide protection to the city.
Tha Phae Gate
On the way towards the old city’s eastern gate we'll wander in and out of many of the city’s quaint lanes. Tha Phae gate was once the entrance through which traders brought their wares into the city. At this beautifully restored gate learn about Chiang Mai's history as a trading hub.
We'll visit a small open market not far from Tha Phae Gate. Wander through the market learning a bit about Chiang Mai food and taste a few fruits and sweets while you are at it.
What's the Riding Like?
This is a totally chilled out bike ride - easy, easy. The terrain is all flat and where we have to cross any roads this is done together in an organised manner (and Chiang Mai drivers are very polite!)
The tropical sun can be quite fierce, so we recommend you use some sun block or, if you prefer a natural option, sun sleeves for your arms and Buff headwear for your neck.
Men and Woman need to cover their shoulders to enter temples and mosques. Woman need to cover their knees as well, so If you like to wear shorts when riding, we recommend bringing a sarong to wear for entering a temple or mosque.

Cancellation Policy & Rain
You still need to turn up for the tour if it is raining. It is quite common that it can be raining in one part of the city and not raining in another. So if it's raining at your hotel don't assume it is raining where you will be cycling. Also it is common that the rain falls heavily and for short durations so if it does rain we just wait and continue the tour once the rain stops. We also have plastic rain ponchos for everyone in the case that you do need to ride in the rain. If heavy rains continues until 8:45 am or if there is torrential flooding, you can choose to cancel with full refund or change your tour to another day.

What our guests tell us...
Just a selection of our great Trip Advisor reviews!
I took the Grasshopper cycle tour around Chiang Mai Temples with my friend. I live in Chiang Mai, but there were still many things that were interesting for me to see and many explanations of things that I wasn't aware of so it was a fun morning outing, and my friend enjoyed it very much. I think that cycling round the Old Town is a fun way to do a tour so I would recommend.
Grasshopper guides are phenomenal! They take time to plan awesome routes that show you unique parts of Thailand most visitors would have a hard time uncovering on their own.
My partner and I recently did the Chiang Mai city and Lamphun tours and had a fantastic time on both. We had the same (Thai) guide for both, who was knowledgeable and great fun and certainly knew about how to navigate the back streets of the old centre (!) and gave us more insight and orientation of the city than we could have hoped to find ourselves.
My girlfriend and I booked this tour due to it's great reviews on Tripadvisor and to be honest, THE HYPE IS REAL! We came with very few expectations but were overwhelmed by another side of Bangkok that we had not seen from the Temple tours.
