Tour Itinerary

Tour Old City Chiang Mai

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop
Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop near Chiang Mai Gate at 9:15am. The bike tour will depart at 9:30 am sharp. After a quick bike fitting and briefing we pedal away to discover the charms of Chiang Mai.

Easy Biking
The biking is easy. It is a chill way to explore Chiang mai. Meandering the small lanes throughout the old city to visit some of the main sights of old Chiang Mai.

Tha Phae Gate
On the way towards the old city’s eastern gate we'll bike through many of the city’s quaint lanes. Tha Phae gate was once the entrance through which traders brought their wares into the city. At this beautifully restored gate learn about Chiang Mai's history as a trading hub.

Somphet Market
From Tha Phae Gate bike to a nearby Somphet Market. Wander through the market learning a bit about Chiang Mai food and taste a few fruits and sweets while you are at it.

Wat Chiang Man
The next stop on the bike tour is Wat Chiang Man, Chiang Mai’s oldest temple, built in the auspicious Northeast corner of the old city. This is where the ancient Marble and Crystal Buddha images are enshrined.

The City Navel
Pedaling through Chiang Mai’s backstreets you will come to the cosmological heart of Chiang Mai is called the City Navel. Visit the Navel Temple with its serene 700 hundred year old white Buddha and the Three Kings Monument.

Wat Chedi Luang
Next on the bike tour is Chiang Mai’s grandest monument. Wat Chedi Luang was built to house the ashes of a king and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha (now resident at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok). It is now the home of the City Pillar and 3 auspicious dipterocarp trees which provide protection to the city.

Bike back to the Shop
The bike tour usually takes 3-4 hours but this is variable by group. The bike tour ends at the Grasshopper Adventures shop, the end of a unique and lovely bike tour through old city Chiang Mai.

What's the Riding Like?

An Easy Bike Tour in Old City Chiang Mai

Flat terrain

11km riding

This is a totally chilled out bike ride - easy, easy. The terrain is all flat and where we have to cross any roads this is done together in an organised manner (and Chiang Mai drivers are very polite!)

The tropical sun can be quite fierce, so we recommend you use some sun block or, if you prefer a natural option, sun sleeves for your arms and Buff headwear for your neck.

Men and Woman need to cover their shoulders to enter temples and mosques. Woman need to cover their knees as well, so If you like to wear shorts when riding, we recommend bringing a sarong to wear for entering a temple or mosque.

Cancellation Policy & Rain

You still need to turn up for the tour if it is raining. It is quite common that it can be raining in one part of the city and not raining in another. So if it's raining at your hotel don't assume it is raining where you will be cycling. Also it is common that the rain falls heavily and for short durations so if it does rain we just wait and continue the tour once the rain stops. We also have plastic rain ponchos for everyone in the case that you do need to ride in the rain. If heavy rains continues until 8:45 am or if there is torrential flooding, you can choose to cancel with full refund or change your tour to another day.
