Half-day bike tour in Bangkok, Thailand
Explore Bang Krachao by bicycle, Bangkok's green lung, a cyclist’s paradise with seemingly endless elevated biking paths winding through fertile mangrove forests, small farms, quiet villages and Buddhist temples.

Bang Krachao is a green oasis sitting in the middle of Bangkok’s concrete jungle. Located on a giant oxbow in the Chao Phraya River, Bang Krachao is shaped like a giant green lung. This where it gets the nickname of Bangkok’s Green Lung. Strict zoning and geography have protected its mangrove forests, coconut plantations and gardens from the urban sprawl of Bangkok making it into Bangkok’s Hidden Oasis. There is nothing like looking through the tangles of tree branches to see the Bangkok Skyscrapers in the distance.

Starting from the Bearing Skytrain station you and your biking guide will pedal your way through back lanes and alleys to the ferry. Once you and your bicycle are across the Chao Phraya River in Bang Krachao the real biking pleasure begins.

Cycling at a leisurely pace ride quiet pathways where all you may meet are birds, a few squirrels and maybe a lizard or two. Along the way stop to visit a family at an old betel nut plantation for a snack and refreshing herbal drink while observing the ship and barge traffic on the Chao Phraya River. Back on the bike the next goal is to visit a mangrove conservation area where you can catch a glimpse what Bang Krachao was once like in its natural state. Pedaling on through a maze of tree lined biking paths, the next stop is a shrine for the Hindu God Ganesh, the god of beginnings and the remover of obstacles. The final stop on the Bang Krachao trail is the local temple and and the little market near the ferry landing.

Please Note: Thailand day tours will not operate April 13th  to 15th over the annual Songkran (water festival) holidays. We will resume tours April 16th after our guides have enjoyed a well-deserved break. Sorry for any inconvenience and enjoy the celebrations!

Tour Itinerary

For Bike Bangkok's Hidden Oasis

Meet at the Bearing Skytrain Station
Behind the Bearing BTS 7 -11 store you will find the Grasshopper Adventures meeting point (use exit 5 from the BTS station if that is how you are arriving at the meeting point). After a quick bike fitting and a little briefing we are off cycling the back roads on the trail to Bang Krachao.

Ferry to Bangkrachao and Cycle along the River Banks
Take a local motorcycle ferry across the busy Chao Phraya River. Then cycle elevated bike paths through local villages and plantations

The Old Betel Nut Garden
Stop for some homemade refreshments in a family garden commanding grand views of the Chao Phraya River and take a moment of two to contemplate the ship and barge traffic on the river.

The Firefly Garden
Before man ever came to Bang Krachao the area was a large mangrove forest which would light up at night with the lights of fireflies. Today members of the local community have created a reserve where you can come to see the mangroves as they once were and where the fireflies can flourish. You won’t see any fireflies during the day but feel welcome to come back at night.

The Ganesh Shrine
Meandering away from the mangroves through villages and local Buddhist temples, stop to visit a Shrine to Ganesh, the Hindu god of beginnings and the remover of obstacles. Followers of his cult in Thailand have a established a lovely shrine to Ganesh in Bangkrachao.

Wat Bang Namphueng Nok
Coming to the end of the Bang Krachao trail we stop for a moment to visit the historical temple of Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok and take some refreshments before we cross back across the Chao Phraya River.

Return to the Meeting Point
Back across the river it is a short ride back to the Grasshopper meeting point.

This tour will take about 4 hours. But the time can vary by group. Snacks and drinks are included.

What's the Riding Like?

Flat terrain

Bike paths

20 km riding

This is a half-day bike tour with plenty of interesting stops along the way. The cycling is flat and not technical but there are sections along elevated concrete paths so you should be comfortable on a bicycle. We’ll pedal mostly paths, backstreets and bike-ways. There are minimal busy sections, but we do this as a group and Bangkok traffic is very courteous when it comes to crossing the road.

The tropical sun can be quite fierce, so we recommend you use some sun block or, if you prefer a natural option, sun sleeves for your arms and Buff headwear for your neck.

Cancellation Policy & Rain

You still need to turn up for the tour if it is raining. It is quite common that it can be raining in one part of the city and not raining in another. So if it's raining at your hotel don't assume it is raining where you will be cycling. Also it is common that the rain falls heavily and for short durations so if it does rain we just wait and continue the tour once the rain stops. We also have plastic rain ponchos for everyone in the case that you do need to ride in the rain. If heavy rains continue until 10:30 am or if there is torrential flooding, you can choose to cancel with full refund or change your tour to another day.

What our guests tell us...

Just a selection of our great reviews!

We just loved cycling around Bangkok with Grasshopper. It was such a fun and unique way to explore the city and see parts of the city we would never have had a chance to visit on our own.You get to wind your way around some of the neighbourhoods where people are living, and working, explore temples that are off the beaten track, and see the city that locals know.

MyFiveArcesJanuary 2019

Grasshopper is our go-to for cycling and they did not disappoint today. … You do not need to be overly fit; just be able to ride a bicycle and accept the challenge of seeing parts of Thailand that very few tourists ever get to see.”

Kiwioverseas63December 2018

I joined two cycling tours during my stay in South East Asia … Both tours were amazing. I fully recommend them and whenever I come back to the area I am sure to do further tours with Grashopper.

Goplaces57308069002 January 2019

Would highly recommend for anyone that wants to see the city and likes a little adventure.

My husband and I are expats living in BKK. We are used to the typical hustle and bustle of BKK. We did the hidden oasis tour and it showed us a new side to this city. Our guides were amazing and so helpful. It was a wonderful experience that we will certainly do again!
