Full day bike tour in Bangkok, Thailand
Cycle the trails around Bangkok, where life is slower and the landscape greener. This bike tour runs in Bangkok.

There are countless hidden passageways and winding cycling trails just outside the heart of bustling Bangkok. On this full day bike tour you will pedal through wooded areas, along tree lined canals and visit ancient temples overgrown with twisting roots and vines. Cycling on narrow paths and winding trails makes this our most technical bicycle day tour but only moderately so. If you like biking on trails and backroads this is the tour for you. Bikers, you won't believe this can be so close to Bangkok!

This day bike tour is designed for those looking for a day on a bicycle out of the congestion of Bangkok. Winding our way out through the suburbs we are soon cycling in the outskirts of Bangkok where tall buildings are replaced by small wooden houses, roads become narrow concrete paths or dirt tracks and crowds of people are replaced by the quiet of vegetation and trees. Some of the locals get around on small paddle boats that they use to access their fruit gardens. It really is like riding a bike into a time gone by.  We can't tell you exactly where you will be cycling - it's our little secret that we will let you in on when you join us on a bike for a ride.

After finishing the tour hop off the bike and relax in our shop while enjoying a complimentary drink from our ice-cold fridge. A nice end to a great day out on a bicycle in Bangkok.

Please Note: Thailand day tours will not operate April 13th  to 15th over the annual Songkran (water festival) holidays. We will resume tours April 16th after our guides have enjoyed a well-deserved break. Sorry for any inconvenience and enjoy the celebrations!

Tour Itinerary

For Bangkok Trails

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop near Khao San Rd at 8:30am. The bike tour will depart at 9am sharp. After a quick bike fitting and briefing we head out cycling. It takes a few kilometres to reach a bit of greenery but on the way you'll bike through tiny alleyways with dense housing - more like cycling through people's living rooms.

Out of the city

Once on the outskirts of Bangkok there are few cars but many locals happy to see foreign visitors cycling in their neighborhood. Lunch is included at a delicious local eatery. There is great variety in the terrain we cover as we jump from communities living along the canals to market gardens to wooded plots to ancient ruined temples all within sight of Bangkok's skyscrapers. We will stop at a few temples of historic importance: Wat Chaloh and Wat Kaew Fah. We will also pedal through areas with some agriculture - plant nurseries and orchards mostly. While this tour does not quite reach the countryside, there is still a countryside feel in some sections. On the return to Bangkok we wind our way back through the alleyways and finish at the Grasshopper Shop.

The ride is a total of 37 km and the tour takes approximately 7 hours, usually finishing at around 4pm but this is variable by group and ability.

What's the Riding Like?

Slightly Technical

Flat terrain

Narrow paths

35 km riding

This is a full day bike tour. You will spend most of the day in the saddle, and while the total cycling distance is not that long it can get hot. The cycling is moderately technical with sections along narrow raised concrete paths so this tour is suitable for experienced cyclists. We’ll pedal concrete,  dirt bike trails and one or two rough spots, but mostly cycle the backstreets and alleyways. There are some main roads to cross but we do this as a group and Bangkok drivers are very courteous when it comes to crossing the road.

The tropical sun can be quite fierce, so we recommend you use some sun block or, if you prefer a natural option, sun sleeves for your arms and Buff headwear for your neck.

Older children and teenagers can do this tour if they are experienced bikers and able to spend the whole day out on a bicycle. We do not recommend this tour for young children.

This tour was formerly called the Bangkok Countryside tour.

If you have a group of 4 or more we can also run this trip on other days (subject to availability).

Cancellation Policy & Rain

You still need to turn up for the tour if it is raining. It is quite common that it can be raining in one part of the city and not raining in another. So if it's raining at your hotel don't assume it is raining where you will be cycling. Also it is common that the rain falls heavily and for short durations so if it does rain we just wait and continue the tour once the rain stops. We also have plastic rain ponchos for everyone in the case that you do need to ride in the rain. If heavy rains continues until 10:30 am or if there is torrential flooding, you can choose to cancel with full refund or change your tour to another day.

Please Note: Thailand day tours will not operate April 13th  to 15th over the annual Songkran (water festival) holidays. We will resume tours April 16th after our guides have enjoyed a well-deserved break. Sorry for any inconvenience and enjoy the celebrations!

Note: street numbers are not overly useful in Thailand as people work more off landmarks and intersections. The best landmark close to us is Kok Wua Intersection which is about 200m west of our shop. This is also the intersection close to Khao San Rd, which is very well known.

Meeting time: 08:30am

It is worth printing the map on this page to show a taxi driver if you choose to come to the Grasshopper Shop by taxi. Bear in mind that you will be travelling during peak hour so if travelling from the downtown area you should allow at least one hour to get here.

Canal Boat
The most efficient way from downtown to our area is on the Klong Saen Sap Boat. Take the Skytrain to Ratchatewi Station, go out of exit 1, then walk toward Siam Square/MBK along right hand side of road. As you go over a bridge you will see the canal (klong) beneath you. Go over the bridge and turn right down the steps and walk to the water. This boat stop is called Hua Chang. Take the boat heading to Phan Fa Lilat (just ask for Kao San road) which is the last stop. From there, again ask for Kao San Road. You can walk in 10 minutes or take a tuk tuk. We are 200 meters from the McDonalds at Democracy Monument. The boat service closes at 7pm so it cannot be used to get back to your hotel after the tour.

River Boat
It is possible to get reasonably close to us on the Chao Phraya Express Boat getting off at Pier N13 Phra Athit which is a 15 minute walk or short tuk tuk ride from Phra Athit Pier. The ferry takes about 1 hour from Central Pier at Sapan Taksin. The boat service closes at 7pm so it cannot be used to get back to your hotel after the tour.

What our guests tell us...

Just a selection of our great reviews!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and brought us to locations we would not have gone to. We went through local neighborhoods and local markets as well as temples.

We did the Bangkok trails tour. It’s a full day tour and it’s totally worth it. You cycle to the suburbs of Bangkok and see places you probably would have never gotten to.

I joined two cycling tours during my stay in South East Asia … Both tours were amazing. I fully recommend them and whenever I come back to the area I am sure to do further tours with Grashopper.
