Start Time: 9 am – End Time: 1 pm
Gather at the Grasshopper Shop
Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop near MRT Sam Yot Station at 8:30 am. The tour will depart at 9 am sharp. After a quick bike fitting and briefing, we head out. Cycling through the heart of the backpacker area, Khaosan Road, you will soon be biking off the roads this bike tour winds through small laneways, past ancient temples and canals to see the heart and soul of Bangkok.
Get out and cycle
There are no particularly famous sights that you will see on this bike tour. It is all about exploring the city by bike away from the tourists and big roads, to see the real Bangkok where people live, work and play. We cycle along the Chao Phraya River and then pedal cross the river on the Rama 8 Bridge. From here we visit ancient temples and urban street life.
Bangkok Noi is the name given to a large canal of the Chao Phraya River. Bike along the canal through tiny alleyways home to a Muslim community. After cycling over a bridge you bike the canal back the other way, this time passing Buddhist temples and one of Bangkok’s first train depots. If open you are in luck to visit a bronze bowl foundry and the old steam engines at the Thonburi train depot - such is the diversity of the city when you get in close.
Ferry back over the Chao Phraya
After a local ferry to cross back over the river, our bike tour passes the Grand Palace where we take a walk through a public park that was once exclusively used by the royal family. After cycling more twisting alleyways, pedaling through a food market, you bike past rows of Buddhas and other sacred images. The area around the Giant Swing isis where Buddha images are made and sold. The Giant Swing is one of the landmarks of the city and was once used for an important Hindu ceremony. From the Swing it is only a short bike ride back to the Grasshopper Shop. The bike tour finishes around 1 pm.
This bike tour is all about exploring a very different side of Bangkok. We won't be cycling to anywhere famous, instead get ready to take in the real Bangkok, where normal people live in the jumble of laneways that few people ever explore. Get ready for true cultural immersion on two wheels!
This tour is all about cycling quiet and sometimes very narrow back streets. Where there are busy roads to cross, this is done as a group. This makes for a satisfying cycling experience even in the big city.
Top quality, well maintained Merida mountain bikes with a water bottle and helmet are provided.

The most efficient way from downtown to our area is on the Klong Saen Saep Boat. Take the Skytrain to Ratchathewi Station, go out of exit 1, then walk toward Siam Square/MBK along right hand side of the road. As you go over a bridge you will see the canal (klong) beneath you. Go over the bridge and turn right down the steps and walk to the water. This boat stop is called Hua Chang. Take the boat heading to Phan Fa Lilat (just ask for Khao San road) which is the last stop. From there, again ask for Khao San Road. You can walk in 10 minutes or take a tuk tuk. We are 200 meters from the McDonalds at Democracy Monument. The boat service closes at 7pm so it cannot be used to get back to your hotel after the tour.
It is possible to get reasonably close to us on the Chao Phraya Express Boat getting off at Pier N13 Phra Athit which is a 15 minute walk or short tuk tuk ride from Phra Athit Pier. The ferry takes about 1 hour from Central Pier at Sapan Taksin. The boat service closes at 7pm so it cannot be used to get back to your hotel after the tour.

Street numbers are not overly useful in Thailand as people work more off landmarks and intersections. The best landmark close to us is Sam Yod MRT station.
How to get to the shop?
The shop is just a 4-minute walk from the new MRT station Sam Yod and just one block away from Miramar hotel. We are at the last building on the same block with KC Music Center.
It is worth printing the map on this page to show a taxi driver if you choose to come to the Grasshopper Shop by taxi. Bear in mind that you will be traveling during peak hour so if travelling from the downtown area you should allow at least one hour to get here.

This was my second tour with grasshopper and it was amazing as usual. Kan was my tour guide and he was really fun to be with. He’s very determined about his work and he knows a lot about the history of the buddhist temples and paintings and the best local cuisine places. He made us stop at a dessert van where they are serving thai sweets. That was really nice. I would like to put this on record that inspite of the bike tyre getting punctured, he wasnt thrown off. He calmly removed the tyre and mended it from a grasshopper mechanic and while doing that made sure i found a comfortable place to sit and relax. This is a wonderful company to go with n this tour in particular is worth it. 10/10
Woody was a great guide. Got to know the history of Bangkok and actually see what it really looked like before. Will do again in another city
