Tour Itinerary

Start Time: – End Time:

Bike & Boat Trip to Samkar

Your excitement to begin this journey will make the early morning start easier. After picking you up from your hotel at 7:00 (time may differ if you are staying on the lake), we’ll securely store our bikes and luggage on a boat and start the day by crossing the lake.

At Indein, we disembark and start our ride. As we pedal off, we’ll leave the crowds of tourists in our dust, then follow a small countryside road with the beautiful Shan hills passing by on our right side and glimpses of the lake on our left. Once we’ve cycled around 26km, we’ll reach the bridge that connects the two lakes. This is an optimal place for a break, with amazing views of the converging bodies of water. Let’s hop back on the bikes, cross the bridge and continue our way to Samkar. Samkar is our well-guarded secret, but won’t stay this way for long, as its stupas that look as though they rise directly from the calm water are gaining a reputation for their beauty.

A well-deserved and satisfying lunch will be prepared us for the second half of the day, as we set off to explore the village by foot before returning to the boat for a relaxing ride to our final destination for the day: Phaya Thaung.

Phaya Thaung is still far off the tourist radar, but thanks to Aung Min and his wife, it boasts a beautiful, high-end accommodation, the Inle Sanctuary, where we will be spending the night. This little village is located on a hilltop that houses a monastery with splendid views over the lake. A relaxing afternoon will have us wandering around this charming town, discovering local handicrafts as we learn about village life and relax on our bungalow’s terraces. Taking in the views from here will be a wonderful end to an enjoyable day of cycling.

Bike, Boat & Kayaking

With a hearty breakfast to prepare us for the exciting day ahead, we will load into the boat again, setting off to the other side of the lake. Today we will cycle the small countryside track that winds along the shore of the lake. On our way, we will have the opportunity to visit some small villages and some beautiful pagodas off the beaten path.

After 20km of riding, we will make our way back to the bridge that connects both lakes. From here, we board our boat and ride to where lunch awaits - in a private stilt house on the lake. This is an excellent way to get a true taste of traditional Shan cooking and spend some time with locals. Fully satisfied from this delicious local meal, next we hop into kayaks and discover the floating villages from a different perspective. Stay active as you paddle your way through a floating village, visiting family businesses that are normally hidden from the eyes of tourists.

To end a great adventure we will ride back by boat to Nyaung Shwe and give our last farewells to the lake and its people, fully satisfied with our multifaceted active adventure.
