Welcome to Colombo – cook like a local
On arrival in Colombo, we’ll arrange for your transfer to your accommodation for your stay. Take the time to get your bearings and relax after a long trip. Save up your energy, and appetite, because tonight you’ll be enjoying a special hands-on culinary experience with a mother-daughter duo in their Colombo home.
This evening we make our way into a Colombo suburbs to learn how to prepare the tantalizing Jaffna crab curry! Our Colombo-based hosts are a warm and welcoming mother-daughter duo who are experts in the many nuanced flavors of Sri Lanka, and can share stories of their food adventures around the country. In addition to learning all about the Jaffna crab, and assorted side dishes, you’ll also get to sample a variety of cocktails based on the locally produced liquor, arrack – In fact, no Sri Lankan culinary experience is complete without a glass of arrak!
An evening of stories, hands-on fun, and incredible food await as this charming duo take you on an unforgettable culinary journey – the perfect welcome to Sri Lanka.

Explore the unseen Colombo
Get some energy with a hearty breakfast at the hotel because today is all about exploring the city. Our friendly, expert guide, Rashan, will be helping to uncover the city’s secrets and sharing his thoughts on the ever-evolving capital.
Rashan’s task is to peel back the layers of the growing urbanization to help you get to grips with the people and the heart of Colombo. Along the way, you’ll navigate the maze of streets via the iconic tuk-tuk as Rashan highlights points of interest.
The trip’s highlight is walking through the beating heart of Pettah, a vibrant neighborhood known for its lively markets and street vendors. A shopper’s paradise, the streets are lined with shops and vendors selling various items, from colorful fabrics and textiles to spices and herbs. You’ll get a fascinating glimpse of local life here.
Rashan will guide you on to the Dutch Burgher Union, an important institution that plays a significant role in preserving the cultural heritage of the Burgher community in Colombo. Here, embrace the opportunity to bask in the glory of Lankan cuisine with a delicious lunch. Do try the delicious lamprais – a powerful concoction of a meal that takes on Indonesian, Malay, European and Sri Lankan elements.
