Rajasthan, India, also known as the ‘Land of Kings’ is a fascinating region of mystery, allure and adventure; a veritable living museum filled with ancient cities, opulent palaces and historical fortifications dating back to past civilisations. If this isn’t enough it’s also home to stunning natural beauty, delightful locals and mouthwatering cuisine. Here’s our Top 5 list of Jaw Dropping Locations in Rajasthan that we love to visit.
We are lucky enough to stay and experience some incredible locations in “The Land Of Kings” while on the Riding the Real Rajasthan tour.
Like many of the situations in India, you never feel prepared enough! The grandeur and beauty of this 15th century castle stop you in your tracks. Situated in the centre of a small, rural, village on edge of the Great Thar desert it is a true oasis of luxury. Enjoy walking the ramparts and manicured gardens, or join us for sunset cocktails and views of the fort on the nearby sand dunes.
The view of the “blue city” from impregnable walls of the Mehrangarh Fortress, looking down onto the palaces, temples and havelis that litter the painted blue houses and streets is a sight to behold. But negotiating the tight lanes and chaotic traffic in the back of a rickshaw is an experience that will stay with you forever.
Then at night you can relax in the peaceful setting of your Haveli’s rooftop restaurant and enjoy the backdrop of the imposing Fort beautifully illuminated at night.
After a long day on the bike cycling through Indian desert & countryside, we finish at an amazing heritage property. This Rajput Palace is a true Oasis, built on the banks of a lake, it has become a focal point for bird life. Surrounded by the fascinating desert tribal settlements of the Bishnoi. This is a real hidden gem in the heart of Rajasthan.
Deep in the valleys and mountains of the Avavalli hills is the incredible Mewar stronghold of Kumbalgarh. This massive mountain fortress has a wall 38km long and 15m wide, (2nd largest in the world) keeping Mughal invaders at bay since the 14th century. There are 360 Jain and Hindu temples inside the walls, with some structures dating to the 6th century.
The beautiful city of lakes, is the historical capital of the kingdom of Mewar. The city is build on the edge of multiple man made lakes. The water accentuates the stunning views of the city, reflecting the lakeside, marble palaces, heritage havelis, ghates and mountains. The beauty is hard to escape, it is a great way to finish the tour.
We are cycling our Riding The Real Rajasthan tour this 29th December to the 10th January, which is an especially great time to visit.
