GRASSHOPPER ADVENTURES

Highlights of Tibet

Adventure Travel tour in Tibet | 14 days ex Kathmandu | US$2650
Kathmandu - Lhasa - Gyantse - Shigatse - Sakya - Everest Base Camp

The Tibetan region has been coveted for centuries; at first glance one wonders why a place so barren that makes life so difficult for the people living here has such appeal. As soon as you set foot on the Tibetan plateau you will understand why. Perhaps it is because of its sparseness and because everything is harder at this altitude, it allows its magic to shine through.

Tibet is endless in its plains and summitless in its peaks. It is a rugged beauty that will take your breath away and steal your heart at first glance. It’s perhaps knowing how much it is treasured by the Tibetan people that will make you see it through their loving eyes.

It is almost as though Tibet has a serene soundtrack echoing with Monk’s chanting that follows you as you explore its hidden riches.

The people are all at one strength, persistence, devotion, compassion and innocence embodied. When you look into their eyes there is almost no need for words, you can see the soul of Tibet.

When you first cast eyes on Mount Everest you begin to understand where this magic might be rooted. The mountain has a life force.

This trip is designed to show you all that makes Tibet such a special place, from its Monasteries to the Himalayas. Kathmandu is the perfect place to start and end our Tibet adventure. Staying in comfortable hotels and having first rate transportation will allow you to appreciate your surroundings all with a good night’s sleep.

There is no substitute for Tibet.

Highlights included in the guided tour are; Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple, the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, Potala palace and Drepung Monastery. Days 7-9 | Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya
We begin our overland journey today, taking private Toyota Land Cruisers and experienced local drivers to ensure we have a safe passage. The drive itself is spectacular passing through beautiful valleys and colorful Tibetan villages. The town of Gyantse, Shigatse and Sakya will be visited, their monasteries and sights explored. We are accompanied by a local guide at all times.
Days 10-12 | Everest Base Camp, Nyalam, Kathmandu

You can partake in an optional hike (2 hours) or pony car to visit Everest Base Camp. After the hike we drive down to Tingri. Crossing another two high passes, the Lalung La (5124m) and the Shung La (5200m) we make our way back to lower grounds where with dramatic suddenness, everything appears incredibly lush and green again. We will arrive back in Kathmandu on day 12, late afternoon.
