Fatehpur Sikri - Taj Mahal - Agra Fort
The beauty of the Taj Mahal cannot be adequately portrayed by words, photographs or paintings. You have to experience it firsthand. From afar the Taj’s perfect form and symmetry draw you in, but once you’re closer it is the incredibly intricate inlay work which catches your eye. Watching the marble change hue from soft yellow to brilliant white and then rosy pink is a memorable experience which will stay with you for the rest of your days.
To some, Agra is the Taj, and this magnificent memorial alone is undoubtedly worthy of the journey to India, but there are plenty of other Moghul monuments which are worth taking in whilst you are here. The imposing sandstone ramparts of the fort are often overrun with monkeys whilst the Taj shimmers in the background. Across the river, the “Baby Taj” (Itmad-ud-Daulah) offers a quieter escape and showcases yet more splendid Moghul architecture. And last, but by no means least, a short drive from Agra, the forgotten city of Fatehpur Sikri gives a fascinating insight in Moghul court life and is a testament to religious tolerance.
Itinerary
Day 1
This morning you will travel by private vehicle from Delhi to Agra before taking an afternoon excursion to the fabulous deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri which combines aspects of all of India’s religions in its intricate construction.
Day 2
An early morning start brings you to the Taj Mahal for sunrise. Later in the day you can visit Agra Fort and the small but seemly “Baby Taj”.
Day 3
This morning you could take a trip out to see the Taj Mahal for sunrise from across the river, do a spot of shopping or just relax by the pool. An afternoon transfer by private vehicle will take you back to Delhi. The tour ends on arrival in Delhi.
